26 Nevada: More Than a Sagebrush Ocean. The Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society and Sandpoint Parks and Recreation sponsor a presentation with Steve Anderson titled \"Nevada: More Than a Sagebrush Ocean\" from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave. The basin and range province contains unique habitats for plant and animal species. Isolated mountain ranges stand in stark contrast to surrounding deserts and contain many plants that are similar to the Northwest. The presentation will concentrate on northeast Nevada and discuss plants, animals and some land management issues. Anderson graduated from the University of Idaho with a B.A. in Wildlife-Fisheries Resources, and then spent two years in Kenya working for the Peace Corps before a 30-year career with the U.S. Forest Service. Anderson is a coauthor of \"Ruby Mountain Flora.\" Program is free and open to the public.

This is a free event that will stimulate the imagination and stir your creative juices. 18-March 13 U.S.C.G.A. Boating Safety and Seamanship Course. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a course covering navigation, charting, mechanics, and more. Certificates are presented upon completion of course examination. Most insurance companies offer a discount on boat insurance to policy holders who have certification. 19 Parent Grief Support Group. For parents grieving the loss of a child, this monthly support group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at Creations of Sandpoint on the Cedar Street Bridge, 334 N. First Ave. This is an ongoing, informal support group meeting that is open to all parents who have experienced the loss of a child at any age. 23 Selkirk Grizzly Bear DNA Project. The Kinnickinnick Native Plant Society in conjunction with Sandpoint Parks and Recreation presents the Selkirk Grizzly Bear DNA Project with guest speaker Don Gay from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave. Since 2015, this project has been collecting grizzly bear hair in the Selkirk Mountains for DNA analysis from scent trees that bears rub on and at sites where they are attracted by a lure. The information is used to determine the minimum number of grizzly bears in the U.S. portion of the Selkirk Recovery Area, and if that number is approaching the numerical goal for recovery. Information collected also yields information on grizzly bear reproduction and gene flow with other recovery areas. Gay is a retired U.S. Forest Service wildlife biologist, and spent time working in the Kootenai, Deschutes, Fremont, and Mount Baker-Snoqualmie national forests. Free admission, public welcome. Kaniksu Land Trust hosts a WildCrafting program for youth - designed to teach participants how to use their hands to create a variety of nature-based crafts - during this 5-week session. 27 Digital Disconnect: How Capitalism is Turning the Internet Against Democracy. The East Bonner County Library sponsors a showing and discussion of this one-hour documentary, starting 6 p.m. in the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St. Adapted from the book by Robert W. McChesney, the film takes a look at how the Internet has revolutionized communication and whether it has been the egalitarian platform for thought and information envisioned when it began. How has the sheer volume of information and discourse provided by the Internet affected the way we think? What about the quality of that information, i.e., fake news? In what ways have the potent forces of capitalism and the free market changed the Internet's development and how it is likely to develop in the future?
