One judge said: "The full moon that was soon due to be eclipsed was one of the most beautiful sites in the sky in a long time. The colors are gorgeous, and the contrast between the darkening sky, the yellowish moon and the snow-covered slopes is striking. The photographer caught the moon at a pivotal moment using a long lens, bringing the subject up close and personal."

The photographer wrote: "Full moon rising at 5:23 p.m. at City Beach point." Photos taken Feb. 20.
