Swimming lesson

Chosen Pick of the Month! - Judges' comments include: "I especially like the composition. You can almost put yourself in the picture, walking along with the goslings down to the water for the day's swim." "I’m glad to see that not all the geese were removed from City Beach."
The photographer wrote: "Last night, I went walking around downtown Sandpoint and took many photos. A couple of them inspired me to get up early in the morning and do the same thing with the rising sun. There were two things I noticed right away: it was windier and colder than the pleasant walk the night before, and Monarch Mountain isn't open at 5:30 a.m.! Bummer! Another thing I noticed - I could stand in the middle of any street composing and shooting pictures without getting run over. I virtually had the town to myself. Well, just me and Waste Management. I wandered down to the Sandpoint City Beach, where I found this gaggle of Canada geese/goslings preparing for the daily swimming lesson. They didn't seem wild about tackling the waves - the wind was kicking up - but soon all were bobbing in the water beyond the breaking waves. The rim lighting on the geese and the translucent waves were from the backlighting by the rising sun." Exposure: 1/500 sec. at f/19. Photo taken May 22.
