On returning home from photographing kokanee salmon, I took a backroad shortcut and spotted this great horned owl in an aspen stand. All I had with me at the time was wide-angle lenses, so I drove home, grabbed my telephoto lens and returned 45 minutes later to discover the owl still in the same spot I left him. I photographed him as he patiently watched me. He flew to another tree nearby where I grabbed a few more images, then backed off to leave him to his peace.
