January 2023

1 Annual Polar Bear Plunge. The Boys Scouts Troop 111 and Sandpoint Parks & Rec invite you to join the party at the Sandpoint City Beach boat launch starting at 11 a.m. There will be heated changing tents and more to keep plungers warm.

1 Junior Race Series on Friday Nights: Registration Deadline. This series is a low-cost ski racing opportunity for both experienced and new acers and it offers kids a chance to meet others with the same interests. 18 CHAFE 150 Registration begins. Sandpoint Rotary hosts the annual 150-mile CHAFE bike ride through Montana and Idaho, along with an 80-mile option and Family Fun Ride. 20-22 Banff Mountain Film Festival - Virtual Edition. The Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious mountain festivals in the world! Hot on the heels of the Festival that is held every fall in beautiful Banff, Alberta, the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour hits the road. With stops planned in about 550 communities and more than 40 countries across the globe, the Banff World Tour celebrates amazing achievements in outdoor storytelling and filmmaking worldwide! 4 Annual Heart Ball.  The Foundation's 15th annual Heart Ball will be held at the Bonner County Fairgrounds. It's an elegant evening with a gourmet dinner served by Pack River Store. There will be dancing, a dessert auction and an exciting live auction. The primary focus is to raise funds for an additional mammogram machine, which will allow the Diagnostic Imaging department to perform 20 additional mammograms each day.

17 Parade of Lights. The kickoff to the 50th year of the annual Winter Carnival, this parade of lights will move through downtown Sandpoint. Check SandpointWinterCarnival.com for the most up to date information on times.

19 Presidents' Weekend Celebration & Let it Glow Fireworks Show.   Join in over Presidents' weekend for a Sunday night fireworks show sponsored by Coca Cola! Schweitzer is celebrating over President's Weekend with the "Let it Glow!" kids parade and fireworks show. They're handing out free LED battery powered "torches" to all the kids who pre-register and then leading the whole group down Ridge Run for a nighttime LED parade, followed by the Fireworks Show. 2 Wild and Scenic Film Festival. A Curated collection of independent films about wild places and the people working to protect them.

3-4 The Follies. The Angels Over Sandpoint's signature fundraiser, the Follies, returns. Presenting some of the best talent Sandpoint has to offer. Be prepared to experience fun like you never have. This is a politically incorrect adult variety show with delightfully raunchy themes. The money from the Follies provides the necessary funding to carry out their mission of helping those in need in our community. The Follies will be held the first weekend in March with shows at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.). Tickets can be purchased starting Feb. 2 at Eventbrite.com or at Eichardt's.

3-5 40th Annual Gun 'N Horn Show. The Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer, hosts this annual event from noon - 6 p.m. Fri, March 3; from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Sat., March 4, and from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sun, March 5. Admission is $5, and kids 11 and under are free. Buy, sell, and trade guns, hunting accessories, knives, hides, taxidermy, and more.

4 Mega Alpine and Snowboard Demo Day. Schweitzer Resort hosts region's largest demo day event featuring new gear from more than 13 manufacturers. All proceeds benefit Panhandle Alliance Education as part of Public Education Week. Prize drawings, samples and more! Register here.

1-2 Sandpoint Home & Garden show. This event at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer Rd., will host over 50 vendors,  and over 1,200 attendees over 2 days. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business. This show marks the end of winter and the start of spring with beautiful landscaped gardens, home improvement contractors, plants, crafts, and so much more. There is something for everyone. This show brings homeowners together with the area's top building experts and remodelers. Free entry, with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item. Times TBA.

1-2 Schpring Finale 2023. It's time to celebrate at Schweitzer with all kinds of events to wrap up the season. A cardboard box derby, a pond skim, the Ponderay Rotary fundraiser - and more. On Saturday enjoy the Ponderay Rotary Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; a Kids scavenger hunt in the village from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Pond skimming from 1-3 p.m., and Live music at Taps from 4-7 p.m. On Sunday don't miss the Yellow snow eating contest starting at 12:30 p.m., or the 'Over the Line' Duct Tape and Cardboard Derby from 1-2:30 p.m. Register here for the derby as it is limited to 30 sleds!

15-16 Funky Junk Antique and Craft Festival. Funky Junk returns as a Spring Festival in Sandpoint. This is Idaho's largest and longest running antique and craft festival. Expect to find treasures, incredible food & drinks, and amazing music. Not to mention artists and collectors jewelry, pottery, barn finds, and more. There will be plants, and other garden supplies and treasures as well.  Admission will be $8 and covers the whole weekend, and kids 12 and under are free (as is parking). Times TBA. 29 Sandpoint Farmers Market Opening Day. Shop for fresh produce and artisan goods from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; market is held Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and every Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. through October 16th in downtown Sandpoint's Farmin Park. SandpointFarmersMarket.com.

29-May 7 K&K Spring Fishing Derby. Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club holds the 75th annual spring fishing derby on Lake Pend d'Oreille. There are many prizes to be won, and multiple categories and divisions. For more information see the LPOIC Facebook page, or visit LPOIC.org.

5-6: 3/4 Minus Cykeltur. This event is a timed gravel grinder consisting of two different routes. The 52-mile One-Humper, and the 76-mile Two-Humper. Both routes follow mixed surface secondary roads, and the Two-Humper includes a four-mile twist of single-track trail. More info

12-20 Sandpoint Waldorf Annual Spring Auction. You are invited to join Waldorf in Wonderland, an auction event hosted by the Sandpoint Waldorf School. The online auction will run from May 12-19 and feature a variety of unique items and experiences. The event itself will be held at the Sandpoint Events Center, 102 S. 13-14 Mother's Day Weekend at Silverwood. Celebrate Mother's Day at Silverwood Theme Park. 17 - June 4: Annual Festival at Sandpoint Virtual Auction. This auction will begin at 7 a.m. on May 17 and run until 9 p.m. on June 4. Auction items will include several VIP perks and packages for the 2023 FAS Summer Series including sponsor entry tickets, front-row blanket placement, a reserved parking spot, an exclusive wine bottle signed by the 2022 lineup of musical artist, and more. 19-20 Lost in the 50's. Lost in the 50's is back! After COVID knocked it out for two years, the 2022 show was terrific. And Lost in the '50s is back in 2023 with a car show, parade, and a pair of hot dance concerts. 27-29 Boulder Beach Open. Boulder Beach will open Memorial Day Weekend and stay open weekends only until later in June, then Boulder Beach will be open daily. 3: Annual Sand Creek Paddlers Challenge. Check out this fun and exciting event for families and serious racers alike. This event is all about fun (and some healthy competition if you want) This is a 4 mile paddle (round trip) up and back on Sand Creek. 10-11 Sandpoint Renaissance Faire. The Joust has Returned, Huzzah! An official tournament will be held as well this weekend.  Eight events with awards, gifts and prizes will be available to show off your gallantry! Join for two days of fine entertainment, eclectic merchants and a joyous atmosphere. Merchants have unique, interesting and OOAK items. 16-Sept. 5 ArtWalk. Join POAC's 46th annual Art Walk. Local artisans, galleries, and business owners throughout downtown Sandpoint collaborate each summer for an event designed to showcase all that our unique town has to offer. ArtWalk gives artist members and other local artists a chance to exhibit their work and encourages all ages to explore this free city-wide event. 17 CHAFE 150. Sandpoint Rotary hosts the annual 150-mile CHAFE bike ride through Montana and Idaho, along with an 80-mile option and Family Fun Ride. New this year is a "Gravel Route" which will replace the 100 mile route. Like last year, the 150 and 80 mile routes have been changed to enhance safety and include stunning views along back roads from the Montana border to Clark Fork Idaho and along the shores of Lake Pend Oreille.  The 40 and 25 mile routes have also been changed to allow riders to continue to experience the beauty and peaceful backroads of Selle Valley while avoiding riding on U.S. Highway 95. 17-18 Third Annual Metaline Falls Bigfoot Festival. Busta Park in Metaline Falls welcomes back the Bigfoot Festival which will feature local businesses, a wide variety of vendors and artisans, Bigfoot researchers, a 5K race, and even a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. 24-25 Race the Wolf. Ultra-marathon and trail race series has a course for everyone! The course naturally boasts steep climbs, really fun single track and some super fast two-track. 29 Summer Sampler. This event brings Sandpoint’s finest restaurants and caterers to a central location in downtown Sandpoint, where the town comes out to nibble their way through the finest tasty treats our community has to offer. This has always been one of the most popular events here in Sandpoint, filled with folks who look forward to the opportunity to sample Epicurean delights from our many talented local chefs. Fourth of July Celebration. Sandpoint Lions host downtown Parade. Children's parade begins at 9 a.m. and the Grand Parade follows at 10 a.m. To take part in the parade, go to the Lions Club Facebook page or website. The cost is $25 if paid before June 30, and $30 if paid after June 30.

4-5 Bonner County Rodeo The sixth annual PRCA/WPRA rodeo is held in the Bonner County Fairgrounds, 4203 N. Boyer Rd. PRCA is the highest-paying American rodeo organization in the world, and sanctions rodeos in 37 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces. Its championship event is the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. In conjunction with the PRCA event, there will also be women's barrel racing sanctioned by WPRA (Women's Professional Rodeo Association). SandpointBonnerCountyRodeo.com.

5 Long Bridge Swim. Held every year on the first Saturday in August, the Long Bridge Swim attracts a wide range of swimmers - including children as young as 7 and a number of swimmers in their 80s! LongBridgeSwim.org

6 Festival at Sandpoint Grand Finale: The Princess Bride in Concert. The Festival at Sandpoint welcomes Conductor Morihiko Nakahara directing the Festival at Sandpoint Orchestra for their inaugural performance. The concert will be held at War Memorial Field. 6 Festival at Sandpoint Taste of the Stars: Wine and Beer Tasting event. This event will take place from 5-7 p.m. - before the Grand Finale: The Princess Bride in Concert. There is no better way to kick off the Grand Finale and conclude the Festival at Sandpoint’s 2023 Summer Series than with an assortment of the region’s finest wine and beer selections. Guests will sample pours from over 15 breweries and wineries from across the Pacific and Inland Northwest during the two-hour tasting. 12 Priest River Sprints: Non-motorized races. All ages and skill levels welcome! Featuring non-motorized watercraft races on the Priest River from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., hosted by the Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association (PORPA), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Come enjoy this celebration of non-motorized water recreation at the Priest River Recreation Area (Mudhole). Bring your single human-powered watercraft for fun races and get to know fellow rowers and paddlers. PORPA.org.

12-13: 51st Annual Arts and Crafts Fair. Pend Oreille Arts Council's Annual Arts and Crafts Fair takes place over two days in downtown Sandpoint, featuring artist booths, food vendors, and a youth art arena. Artwork exhibited includes sculpture, ceramics, metal, fiber, photography, paintings, mixed media, wood, crafts, and more. 1-4 Fall Fest. It's back! Enjoy four days of beer tasting and fun at Schweitzer. Schweitzer.com. The festival begins Friday afternoon with two bands and over 80 beers, ciders, seltzers, and a handful of wines. Bring your blankets as there will be live music all weekend. The beer tent will be on the tennis courts near the bottom of the Great Escape Quad so you’ll never be too far from the beer. The party continues Saturday, Sunday and Monday with 8 more bands!

2-3 Artists' Studio Tour. Annual self-guided driving tour of working studios through North Idaho 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy summer in north Idaho and discover terrific new art. 11-16 WaCanId Ride. Annual Rotarian supported bicycle tour takes cyclists on paved roads encircling the Selkirk Mountains of Washington, Canada and Idaho - hence the name WaCanId. The six-day event covers 370 miles/595 kilometers and showcases the International Selkirk Loop's spectacular scenery. Registration for the 2022 ride will open at a later date when the restrictions for non essential travel are lifted at the international border. Fully vaccinated travelers can cross into the US and Canada, however, Canada also requires a negative COVID test 72 hours before crossing. 23 Find Your Strength 5k & 1k. Join for the second annual Find Your Strength Family Fun Run. The Bonner General Health Foundation is hosting a community 5k/1k beginning and ending at the City Beach. The race concludes with an after-party with kids' activities on the lawn in front of Trinity at City Beach, complete with face painting, a bouncy house, a magic show, corn hole, and more. Head of the Pend Oreille Regatta. The Pend Oreille Rowing and Paddling Association hosts the annual regatta when rowing clubs from the Northwest and Canada gather at The Mudhole in Priest River to compete in a 1.7K headrace and a 1K stake race.
