**Applications Open: 2026 Swim Instructors and Assistants Needed. Apply by Friday, May 15, 2026. Paid Lead and Assistant Swim Instructors are needed for the Pend Oreille FREE swim lesson program, running Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the weeks of July 27 (Springy Point near Sagle) and August 3, 10, and 17 (Riley Creek near Laclede). 1 Applications Open for Good Neighbors Fencing Project. Applications for the Good Neighbors Fencing Project open May 1, providing 3 fences at no cost to local community members to help keep pets safely at home. This collaboration between BTAA, Cedar Hills Church, and Humble & Black Real Estate will complete the builds during Cedar Hills' "Serve Sandpoint" event on June 14. 2 'Confidence in Boating' Training. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Lake Pend Oreille Flotilla will host this safety class from 9 to 11 a.m. at the U.S. Forestry Building, 1602 Ontario St. This training is focused on basic vessel control and emergency preparedness for boaters, passengers, families and older children. 3 Sharing the Dharma Day. Join the Buddhist nuns and monks at Sravasti Abbey Buddhist monastery, 692 Country Lane in Newport, for Sharing the Dharma Day. It's a day-long event for newcomers and old friends to explore Buddha's teachings to develop peaceful hearts and minds. The day includes a guided meditation, a teaching on the topic of the day, vegetarian potluck, and a facilitated discussion. Topics come from the book, "Working With Anger," by Sravasti Abbey founder and abbess Ven. Thubten Chodron. No experience required. 4 Registration Deadline: Creating a Copper Bracelet/Cuff with Dave Gonzo. In this class students will learn how to safely and properly use the oxyacetylene torch, the properties of copper, the difference of work hardened vs. annealed, annealing copper, measuring and layout, cutting shapes with the beverly shear, sanding and deburring, hammer texturing, basic fold forming and shaping into a bracelet/cuff. 12-18 Young Adults Explore Buddhism. Experience a transformative week of living and learning with renowned Buddhist teacher and author Venerable Thubten Chodron during this residential course for young adults (ages 18–29) from 3 p.m. June 12 thru 10 a.m. on June 18. Set across acres of forest, the program integrates meditation, teachings, and discussions on current issues with mindful outdoor work—no prior experience is required, only an open mind.
